Wings over the Rockies Aviation Museum

The Wings Over the Rockies Museum is built on the grounds of the former Lowry AFB just East of Denver Co.

I lived near by until 1999 but never remember it being a thing till a few years ago. on a recent business trip I stopped by with the old reliable Panasonic DMC-Z53 Camera I use often for aviation events, museums etc.

The Museum sits in one of the old large Lowry hangars, the surrounding area has been re purposed for shopping and retail. The main focus is military aviation with several must see aircraft like the F-14 & super sonic B1A. With Colorado’s dry climate and in door conditions all the aircraft are in excellent shape shown in an as used condition.

Colorado has a rich aviation history based on the combination of military aviation bases like Lowry, Buckley, NORAD, USAF academy along with a central location for aviation routing / maintenance. Several key home grown aircraft are there like the Adams aircraft prototype built by scaled composites, the Boom Demonstrator static mockup, Gizmo retro 30’s look built out of various existing aircraft and the Eaglerock biplane manufactured in the local area.
